No sort of dress code listed on the invite, website, or flyer? Don’t sweat it. You can look for photos from last year’s conference either online or on social media. You’ll see right away whether women showed up in suits and hats or in cardigans and flats.

What about regional and national conferences, though? You’ll be conferencing with women from churches you've never visited, and everybody brings their best for the opening night. We’ve always found that things loosen up quite a bit by day two. Workshops are less formal. Cardigans come out during breakout sessions.

Multi-day conferences can be tricky because you need outfits for 3-4 days without overpacking. You can get creative to wear the same pieces a few times. Wear the same blazer over a dress on day one and over a blouse with pants on day three. Nobody will notice, trust us!

Balancing Style and Modesty

There’s a fine line to toe here. You want to look put together. But nobody should end up paying more attention to your outfit than to the speaker. This is still a church event at the end of the day, which means respect and reverence come before anything else.

Same coverage as Sunday. Hemlines at or below the knee, sleeves you feel good in. You don’t want to be constantly adjusting your neckline every time you stand up for praise and worship. Modesty matters. Err on the side of more coverage > not enough coverage when in doubt.

Fabric needs to be carefully thought out, too. Expect to sit in a chair for hours at a time. Knit and crepe work best because they breathe and won’t get wrinkly as soon as you sit down.
